More on the underside today but is is finally definitely done. Phew and also did the door pillars. Replaced the rusting spring clips for the air intake cover and coated them with Dinitrol. Polished all over and took her out for a spin in the country
Just noticed a bit I missed on the prop tut tut  Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Last edited by Zagato on 7th May 2011 4:29pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Door pillars easy to do - pull out gromet, stick extended nozzle up and blast away
These pillars are real to do on older vehicles in fact you can't get them any more on older models SO definitely worth a ten second squirt for each one  Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

There's a drainage hole in the bottom of the A pillar just above the bulkhead outrigger which gives full access for a spray probe too. Have you removed the two grommets just below the windscreen and injected some in there too? Steve.

Went to Driffield, was a bit disappointed really, though Brendans stand was very good.

Yes it would be a good idea to have a thread so that everyone can chip in with their thoughts on what, where and how to seal, protect and preserve a Landy

Best to change them every four years... much less stressful and big demand keeps cost to change low. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Given that I don't have anywhere near the knowledge to do all this stuff what state should expect my 110 to be in after 4 years if I don't get a professional on the case with all these treatments ? 2011 Defender XS 110 Station Wagon - Rejected

Had a look underneath at a few Police 08 Puma's at our local "Cow Pie Agricultural Show" this afternoon. They all had mud caked into the crevices and were in a state but then they are working vehicles and it would take years for there to be any serious corrosion. Barry - It's only a case of ordering whatever anti-rust, under-seal treatment you want and doing it yourself. If your not going to keep the vehicle for a long time there is no need though, no major damage will be done in 4 years if any at all They also had about 8 Defenders for sale at the show from 5-7K and all been tarted up and well used but still going which is the main point and I bet they weren't undersealed from new. I nearly came away with a Ferguson TED20 for £1200 but too many toys at the moment, one day I'm gonner get myself a tractor though - when my wife isn't with me Right time to give her usual evening rub down Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Looking good Zag - I'm looking forward to mine being all shiny again after it's been in to the paint shop week after next. There are a few rust patches and bubbles to sort out and having the front bumper and rear crossmember blasted and re-sprayed. Planning to get it booked in for waxing and under-sealing as well. I'm hopeful then that I can keep it looking good with regular TLC. It's the downside of buying second-hand I suppose, you can't do anything about what someone else has or hasn't done, saying that, the previous owner did keep it in remarkably good nick for the 5 years he had it.
Is this your new hobby now? Poking around underneath other Defender's to see how bad their crevices are? I bet you're compiling a list of 'worst offenders' As you say though, there are so many that haven't had any of this sort of treatment that are still going with no problems, other than looking a little rough around the edges. Personally, I like my cars to look like new for as long as possible, just because I enjoy looking at them more that way! And little things that aren't right just really wind me up. Imagine all the rust treatment you'll be able to do when you enter into classic tractor ownership! |
