Why not use another site sponsor and do the remap remotely, saving on hotel bills and flight costs? Defender 90XS SW

Purely down to the bespoke mapping being offered and the ability to try and see if it suits my driving style. That's the main draw for me.

Yep, I didn't look at Mike but it's a 200 mile round trip with average speed cameras all the way. I also wanted a more customed map tailored to my needs. It's not as straight forward as a performance or towing map, more in between. 😀

My 110 is now three years old and I'm ready to have it mapped.
What's important for me is that it's a proper job with technical back up if required. The remote option from the likes of BAS is attractive on account of our remote location (in relation to England). It's not cheap, but it's not too bad either as the diagnostic tool is quite expensive in itself and I could do with one of these anyway (more than one defender). The feedback on here suggests BAS does a proper job. I was thinking about getting it done at the Scottish Land Rover show and hoping for a show discount! BAS were at the show last year. Oh, if you want to see/try a startech, I have one in my 110. Just need to get it back from warranty works, it's been nearly three weeks now. I could be tempted but my car still has 2 years warranty on it so would want to have a removeable map... rather than a fit and forget.
I guess the BAS or other remote install options whilst not a bespoke map are easy to fit and also remove! Surely BAS or a.n.other could write a modified map for you to install more suited to your specific requirements? Cheers Mike |

Mike,
I totally agree BAS do offer the 150 and 170bhp maps that you can apply with the tool but I'm struggling to meet the price for the combined setup. Yes the tool can read and reset fault codes as well as apply and remove maps at will but it's a substantial initial outlay. Have a look on the website for the price including VAT. I'm not doubting it's worth every penny but with the uprated intercooler and silicon hoses I have just ordered it's not somewhere I'm willing to go just now😉 Rossy |

Just my thoughts ... but I would recommend you give Pete a call at BAS as I believe he can ‘tweak’ the remaps for you....
I do wonder what you are looking for from your remap as there are a range of them available to suit a host of usages I had a BAS remap on my pervious 2.4 110 because I had an EGR issue and we live in the wilds of Cornwall and had the same issue you have living in Scotland, It was truly amazing and easy to set up and removed when required for servicing etc, It made the vehicle more drivable at lower speeds and smoother on the motorways. Yes its expensive, but you are going to have expenses to travel to have one fitted anyway, where as BAS can be done world wide and has a good reputation on the forum. Well uprated intercooler fitted, one silicone hose fitted and the air box mod done.... second hose and map to go.
I guess there is no appetite for a visit from Empire to the Aberdeenshire area so I will have to look at the alternatives. Not sure I want to wait until the Scottish Land Rover show to see if there are deals to be had. Or does anybody know if some of the exhibitors offer discounts during the show? |

My recent experience with remaps is that they are not all equal....
Purchased a S/H 110 utility recently which already had a remap and it drove ok, but the power delivery was not smooth. Contacted Pete at BAS for one of his remaps and the difference is night and day - not so much in out and out power, but in drivability and how smoothly the BAS remap delivers the increased power. Pete at BAS is absolutely first class. I've used his remaps and/or engine diagnostic tools on a discovery, a FFRR and now a defender and his service is second to none. With BAS you absolutely get what you pay for. Pete responds to emails, usually within the hour, whatever time of day and is always on hand to help with technical info and advice. There's a saying.... 'buy cheap, buy twice' and I can't agree with this more after my recent experience. If that doesn't 'float your boat', the 200 mile trip to Dundee isn't so bad - I've travelled from Cumbria to Aberdeen once a month for the last 3 years and it's a breeze - far easier than heading south. Recent addition of speed cameras between Dundee and Aberdeen just means you have to stick to 70mph - easy - you're in a defender, not a Ferrari! 2014 110 XS Utility 2017 D5 2012 FFRR TDV8 |

Is the unlocking of the OBD free if you purchase the Atric? It also says it needs to be performed at their HQ. I can't tell from the website.
I wonder if Alive would supply a few maps to allow you to choose since it can save 5 on the internal storage. Yep definitely a possibility. |
