Imagine the telephone call:

Hello, Vehicle styling dept.

- Hi this is the PR dept. Have you got that new Defender ready yet?

No, the new factory isn't built yet.

- Damn, it's the 70th anniversary, we need to do something impressive. People are getting cynical about exploiting a once proud heritage. Any ideas?

Remember a few years ago, we made a drawing in the sand at Red Wharf? That got people excited, some even went on a pilgrimage up there and to Solihull.

- Yeah, the good old days. We should do something like that again. How about in snow this time?

But we've got no Defenders to it with, nothing new to show.

- It's alright, I know a bloke that will do it on skis.

Sorted. It'll be great.

And the same day the German dictator Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun committed suicide but he had a G wagon and was fed up with the cost of parts.

You had me worried for a few moments there - but I think the glimpses in the video posted above show it to be one of the other models...I'm not sure which and wondering if this reflects more badly on me or Prof G Confused

I think Lee McKenzie is posting that she's seen the new Defender - as a JLR future vehicles press launch - asked:

"Ask ab the Defender replacement ( please)"

she replied:

"I’ve seen the whole family of them. Strictly no pix allowed but they are incredible."

so things are ramping up nicely for the end of month.

I can't imagine it would be, but let's be honest when looking at the snow outline in the picture, you can see they already have the Discovery Sport/Discovery/Velar/RRS/RR nose, so from the front, probably not much different. The back end looks like a squashed Jeep to me. Shocked Monsieur Le Grenadier

"Snow artist Simon Beck, who specialises in creating geometric outlines on foot, braved sub-zero temperatures to start the celebrations by creating the Defender outline 2,700m up at La Plagne in the French Alps"

Ha ha ha. I brave sub-zero temps every week of winter, it's called going to work or skiing. He's a snow artist, so used to it. Plus, it's in La Plagne in the French Alps, not the middle of Antarctica. Just out of shot to the left, there's a piste-side café. OK I made that up, but there is. Probably.
