We buy your house
Wife wants to move house so we had it valued and put on the market. Nothin ghappened for a couple of weks so I thought I'd try we buy your house.
It turns out they are a bigger bunch of rats than we buy any car.
Phonecall went as follows

Them, We are the UK's biggest buyer of houses, we pay all fees and your money will be with you in 7 days
Me, happy days
Them, Have you had your house valued recently
Me, Yes, 2 valuations between £265-£270K
Them, OK, We are the UK's biggest buyer of houses, we pay all fees and your money will be with you in 7 days. We can offer you £120K
Me, Really
Them, Yes, we have our overheads and still need a small profit margin.
Me, Ok, many thanks, bye
Them, Are you sure> We can have the money to you in 7 days. Do you want to think about it.

So our house is still on the market 110 D250 SE HT

true story about WBAC, friend of mine sold his car to them.

WBAC gave him £10k for it, they sent it to auction and it didn't meet reserve, went to another auction with no reserve and sold for £9200

£800 loss on the car plus what ever transport/admin fee's they had to pay

These type of companies prey on those who want quick money, just as bad as payday loan companies.

However there is an awful lot of gulible people using them...

To get an idea what house prices are actually achieving in your area look at nethouseprices.com

You will be able to compare your actual house with ones you believe are the same in your area.

How bizarre, 24hrs after the phonecall. we had an 2 offers, 1 needed to sell and the other had just accepted an offer on thier house so a confirmed offer. Even managed our target price so well happy.
The house we'd found, offer in and accepted. Now the loooong wait for all the paperwork and searches now.
How long is that nowadays? It was 12 weeks when we purchased our current house 110 D250 SE HT

Much the same as when you part ex your house with a developer. We looked at it and were told we could PX our current house and be in a new one within 2 weeks....but when the figures were presented, the PX figure was based on "What would be offered if it were to be a cash sale to go through within 2 weeks" - so essentially half of what the property was worth.

There was then a sliding scale based on how quickly you wanted to move.

Does anyone actually sell their house on this basis? Ie for half it’s market value Shocked Obviously I’d expect them to offer less than market value to turn a profit, fair enough, but half?!?

Depends on how good your solicitor is, keep chasing them, the squeaking gate gets more oil as they say. Be prepared for fall throughs as anything can happen in the next few months. Goos luck! Jeff

Depends on what you paid for it, our parents spent 37k buying their house in Twickenham in 1978, they sold it 6 years ago for £430k, mortgage all paid up.

If you half that @ £215k then it's still a large sum of money.

Think about houses that are left in a will to the kids...they may not want the house, easier to sell it fast for whatever they can get...

True didn’t really consider those circumstances. I was thinking of us that need to sell in order to get a bigger house with a mortgage. To be mortgage free one day will be a very happy one!

Our current house took 4 weeks from offer to moving in, but all finances were in place and we weren't selling our old houses so it made it a lot quicker. Ray
