You won’t be able to see if the switch has melted unless you take it apart,
If you do, you will find that the contacts have probably got hot, melted the plastic that they sit in, and this causes the contacts to sink Into the hot plastic and not make contact. 9 times out of 10 it’s the switch, closely followed by the stalk! I had one in at work yesterday that had burnt both headlamp plugs out, Not come across that one before? Click image to enlarge 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. Just changed the light switch for a new one... no luck.
Just ordered now a new indicator stalk. Any other clues about what could be causing this issue pls? Is there relay for the headlight on this model? Many thanks |

Yes it are weak points.
To prevent this from happening again you should use a relay. I have done this myself and no further problems a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

I think you should test voltage from point to point to ground. Simply use a small 12 V bulb with connected wires. One end connected to the ground (Battery minus). The other end connected step by step to these points. (When possible try it first before the mentioned point and then directly after this point.
1. Light switch 2. Combi-Switch (Side flashers / main beam / horn) 3. Fuses 4. Lamp connectors. If the bulb illuminates go to the next point, if not, you found the problem. I think it's the combi switch. /Max |
