Cubby Box Install
Whilst nice (but not often utilised) to have 10 seats, I had always intended to remove the front row middle seat & replace it with a cubby box. I didn't want to spend too much, so decided to go for a Britpart one. With our Defender having the XS interior, I considered whether to go with an XS trim box, or a plain black vinyl one. I scoured the net for images & found a few, & made a decision to go with the plain vinyl one. Just a personal preference on what I thought looked best really! The middle row seat came out fairly easily, although the access to the bolts at the rear where a little restricted, plus I had to get assistance from the wife holding the bolted while I undid the nuts from beneath the vehicle. There where rivnuts installed in the centre cover plate under the seat, which I used to mount the cubby box. After rechecking measurements several times, I drilled the base of the cubby box as well as cutting & painting some wooden blocks to lift the box to the correct height & bolted it in with some 75mm long bolts. I did have a bit of a challenge removing the cupholder (as that's where the front bolts needed to go through the base), as it is glued in, but after some advice on here; I used a wide scraper with some sustained pressure to lever it out. I also didn't bother to glue it back in as I figured being able to remove it for cleaning might be useful.
