vehicle reported stolen - HPI question

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. I've been looking at an old vehicle (not a landrover), and did an HPI check on it. the info said reported stolen in 2001.

Does anyone happen to know if this means the vehicle is stolen and thats that, or if it was stolen and subsequently recovered. Is there any way of checking this status as to what it actually means? clearly i m not going to part with hard earned for a nicked vehicle but the report says stolen in 2001 and its been driving around for the past 10 years but I need to know currrent status. Any ideas?

Go back to the HPI provider and ask them to clarify the status if you feel its unclear
