Which Dixon Bate Adjustable Tow Bar
I am in the process of buying a Puma 110 USW XS 2.2 that has a standard LR tow bar fitted. I am wanting to tow a caravan and using the lower holes on the towbar means that the caravan's nose would be 2.5 inches too high. I understand that the DB adjustable tow bar is the best one. I see on the website that they come in 4 different sizes (100mm, 150mm, 200mm and 260mm). Which size should I get to ensure the lowest holes are at least 2.5 inches below those on a standard LR tow bar? Discovery 4 HSE

With all the various tolerances, there's a possibility your datum will be different from someone elses.

I had a similar issue with towing a trailer - I went to a big trailer dealer and just picked various ones off the shelf and loose fitted to the towbar (just slide the bolts through) to see which one gave me the right drop without actually dragging along the floor.

It took minutes to do and the staff were very accommodating. Can't beat eyeballing it to know it's right.

Given the approvals involved you would be better to remove the current tow bar and fit a full Dixon bate kit. At least you know then that the system is tested for the purpose that it is being used. Also the full kit isn’t much more expensive than the drop plate on its own.

Finally bought my first Defender this week. Bought and fitted the LR007222 tow bar. As seen in photo it's the perfect one for my caravan. Happy days. Discovery 4 HSE

If you can manage to find a Dixon Bates shock link they do make the towing better. Al-ko/Dixon Bates unfortunately do not make them any more.

The Al-ko tow ball has a longer neck then the standard tow which can make hitching up easier, might be useful to check which one is fitted to your towbar. We have found removing the extended plastic handle on the Al-ko hitch also helps preventing the hitch fouling on the spare wheel.

ALKO towball fitted at lowest point of DB (LR007222) adjustable tow-bar in photo. Centre ball height 16.5 inches, caravan sits very slightly nose down which is perfect. No issues with lever from caravan tow hitch hitting spare, it was close but missed! All hitched up with Defender rear door closed. Very Happy Thumbs Up Discovery 4 HSE
