Haworth Main Street - cobbled, steep and very nice condition. Big tourist draw. Iโm aware of a couple of other steep cobbled roads in Keighley area which are not on the tourist radar and sadly are in a poor state of repair.

Cobbled roads have a slight problem when new services are put in and trench is just back filled and horrible black stuff to top it off.
In Leeds 6 there are some cobbled roads/hills where the middle has been tarmaced . Was told that was so horses could get grip on cobbles. No idea how true this is. There again around Bradford/Calderdale plenty of unadopted roads as well. Brendan |

Well Mick, if it comes to horses and their 'footwear' I will bow to your experiences!

When I used to ride some years ago in a village local they had some in 'strips' across the road.
A few on a hill, I always used to be nervous riding downhill over those parts especially in the wet. Even overly smooth tarmac in the wet can be slippy to them.

Your not kidding, I fractured my heel in Belgium on a Triumph Trophy 1200 trying (and thankfully succeeding) to keep it upright mid U turn when a florist emptied their flower bucket accross the road. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

Cobbles are lethal for most forms of modern transport.
Micklegate in York used to always give the bike suspension a workout and in winter could be quite an interesting ride downhill and around a bend. Mind you summer, sitting at the bottom and watching all the pretty girls cycle by made it all worthwhile |

"I've never come this way before!" she cried, as she cycled over the cobbles.
