I run 265’s.
The difference is neglible in normal driving conditions. For me it is more about the look. Personally i like the look of the very small oldschool Michelin tyre on the more “pure” defenders and a more beefy tyre on the more tricked out versions. 265/275 in that range a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

After this weekend is over it is possible that you wont need winter tyres till next winter.
You can then get the 235 at a more sensible price if you buy at the best time. (prices are all over the place at the moment. A quick look shows camskills at £175 and oponeo at £235 but I expect they will come down to the £150ish mark again) |

Apt100 - the impending end of the winter season is a fair point but not one I’m totally unaware of despite this weekend’s sting in the tail. I’ve had a second set of boosts for a while now and I’ve been keeping my eye on the price of the Hakkapeliittas throughout the summer. At £158 per tyre for the 265’s the current price looks good to me.
I’m prompted into action more by the fact that I sold a set of Cross Contacts to a fellow forum member just yesterday therefore having the luxury of some space in my garage and an injection of cash into the Defender “slush” fund. (Slush fund see what I did there) Tdi4 - yes I agree, it’s all about the “look” |

It may not just be about the look, if you think you might ever want or need to use chains. Anything larger than 235/85 and you may find chains are rather destructive!

Hi Blackwolf,
Could you explain a bit more? Do you also have problems with XMR 82 V BRENTA-C 4X4 snow chains. Haven't used them yet so can't say I didn't have problems yet I run 265/75/16 tyres. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

I have no experience with the chains you mention, but with my 110 DC I generally run 255/85 BFG KM2 on 0 offset Blindos. Running clearances on these are so tight I cannot fit any chains to them. If I need, of think I am going to need, chains, I fit a set of Michelin XZL on HD (Wolf ) rims, which allow Pewag or Rud HD 4x4/truck chains to be used. I have a Gwyn Lewis mudflap kit on the front, which reduces clearances.
So my advice is to check with the tyre, wheel, and chain combo you want to use on your vehicle and through the full range of suspension and steering articulation, preferably before parting with your cash. Your chains look fairly skinny and close-fitting, which will help. |

Ok £158 for the 265 is a reasonable price, but I was just offering a thought that once supply catches up with demand that the 235 are likely to come back to a similar price. I remember when I bought mine that the price could fluctuate by £50 or more within a few days. |

Apt, hope I didn’t come across a bit funny. You made valid points and can I say thank you for taking the time and trouble to respond. |
