Insurances are a joke full stop!
I dont want to offend anyone south of my boarder, i was told a story from my pal about his renewal,
They had shot the price right up, and he asked why. They told him it was due to the floods down south, he said what has that got to do with the north east? They couldnt reply to that, so he went else where and a got a deal.
Thats like car theft been rife in my area and some one down wales pays for it by hiking up their insurances.
At the end of the day, its all down to greed really. As they tried to use the floading excuse to try and make a profit!
They do the same thing with 1.1 /1.2 cars ( that should be cheap to run and insure) Makes them cheap alright, they practically price them out of the market! making a 1.4 onwards more cheaper to insure so it cancels out running anything lower cc practically.
One insurance i was with once, tried to hike the price right up, and all i did was change engine, reg and colour!
Like swopping from a 200 tdi 90 to a 300 TDI 90, they tried to add nearly a 100 quid more! and guess what i did what
Swine&Small did, and run it through a online quote, and the same insurance company wanted a 100 quid less! I was paying a 1000, for the earlier model! So the newer model was 100 quid cheaper, laugh was the newer model was cheaper to insure but a couple of a 100 for some reason. So how do they work it out is beyond me, They do try and wriggle out of paying out too! Sometimes is it really worth claiming on the insurance if the car is a certain age and worth peanuts? You go through the full works and you walk away with 50 quid afterwards. While you can just weigh the old motor in and buy a replacement car. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I saved over £250 off my M3 insurance by ringing around ended up with A-plan, saved over £100 off the Defender insurance by ringing around - not even bothered with the big comparison sites

ringing around is very time consuming though - especially when they seem to shut at 1700.

I had a few good years with a-plan but a few bad experiences. Was tempted to try them again, but again they are shut when im free to call Mike

I learnt that loyalty sucks several years ago, and as I have a few LR's I ring round the Brokers every year

I find I cannot get a phone quote in under 25 minutes, including waiting time, options-picking, money-laundering questions and their endless droning on about the regulations they and I have to comply with.

And that is just with one Broker and one vehicle.

After phoning two or three Brokers, I lose the will to live and end up accepting a quote just to get off the phone.

This is mainly for "classic" policies.

Can you get sensible online quotes for classic vehicles?

Does it take as long, fiddling about on the internet for the cheapest quote/best service, as it does on the phone?

I might try it, if it gives me my life back.....
