P38 prices
Any idea why the prices of P38s seem to be on the march still? Petrol variants that were £2.50 not that long ago have rocketed. The good stuff seems to be about £6.5k now! Perhaps the anti-diesel narrative has inflated the prices.

Probably a combination of that and also Range Rover Classics are becoming increasingly valuable so the P38 is the more affordable option and is also starting to gain classic status I'd imagine.

Yep that makes sense. It is still a lot of car for the money, and arguably requires the same maintenance money as an L322. The variants with the colour coded bumpers - Westminster/ Bordeaux seem to have aged ok. I’m looking at a couple of 2001 models as possible station hacks. Not sure whether to go 4.0 or 4.6!

I went and looked at a P38 4.6 Vogue yesterday. Having asked the obvious questions before going it was pretty disappointing to get there and the guy said 'oh yes there is one thing, the book symbol on the climate control'. So three blend motors / dash out (not interested in hacking it about). He did say we could work the cost of repair into the price.

Other than that it looked pretty good. I've asked 4x4 Development to give it a check over / diagnostic check and the owner was happy to do that. Will know more next Sat hopefully.

Tomorrow morning I'm off to look at another P38, a run out Bordeaux model which looks very clean. I think they were a bit of a parts bin special, and realtively low spec in comparison to the Vogue, but in any event I just hope there won't be any surprises!

No surprises, the Bordeaux was really tight and clean. Minor crack in the front bumper but no sign of impact, so that will need some work. The sills also need a respray, , they are solid but there are marks where the running boards were removed. The MoT advisory was that the air bags are perished so that is something to add to the list. I didn’t realise that this model had not got heated seats. Not sure how much of a job to refit, perhaps a chat with Trevor at Nationwide.

Time to talk to Mrs H and find out if it is a divorce level event, and which current car has to go to make space. Laughing

It turns out it’s not a divorce level event! Woo and hoo in equal measure! The most reliable and economical car in the fleet, the VW Golf is about to be replaced with a 4.0 v8 P38, what could go wrong Rolling with laughter

I know, I know they aren’t without the odd challenge! Parts are still relatively cheap and patience is a virtue. They do drive nicely when going..... Laughing
