Having had this on eBay for 2 weeks, and more recently Autotrader, I'm surprised there hasn't been a single bit of interest?
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm going to get another MOT on it in the next week, because I realise that might currently put some people off. It seems reasonably priced compared to other 90 300tdi CSWs though. |

Suggestions?
An afternoon scrubbing the mats and pedals, paint the chequer plate sills and decent photos in a neutral environment..on an industrial estate, concrete floor and brick background. I'd not show the headliner as it looks a bit tatty. Priced 'reasonably' will require a reasonable wait. It's a great spec of when the Defender first came to appeal to families, give it a good polish too. |

I'd probably spend £50 swapping the tyres around...no lettering. As much as people like it, it'd put me off, don't give people an excuse to swipe past it.
I'd also take the roof bars off ( I'd buy them ), A bar and spot lights off and the alloy dash surround...make it look standard  |

At the very least you need to show photos of the rust traps because it's a 20 year old vehicle. A full MOT is a definite. The moorland cloth looks really dated these days as do those alloys. I feel 10K is a very high. Nothing on the ebay sold listings has gone much above 8k without either having had a galv chassis, and engine rebuild or being an immaculate example. |

With Greeni on the wheel lettering and roof bars. The lowering and tints would also put me off. It does look pretty sound otherwise so best of luck with the sale!

i would remove the roof bars and perhaps the rear window tints.
apart from that its down to the high price and the market is slowing for lr and diesel cars all round. bear in mind its Easter and lots of folk are away on hols. |

Ironic, isn't it.
This forum is full of posts about spending a small fortune "modding" your Land Rover and everyone says "How nice". Yet when it comes to selling your Land Rover, the advice is: take the mods off and get the vehicle back close to original spec - if you can. It is good advice. After many decades of being involved with Land Rovers I can recall plenty of "Wanted" adverts for original, or close to original vehicles. I can't recall an advert saying "Wanted. A Land Rover modified to your personal specification". It is no surprise if selling prices reflect this....... |

it's a nice vehicle. But it's hard to know what the chassis is really like without more info, and that's key. Mileage is ok, but not low. Lowered is off-putting for most - it's a land rover..... it needs to be able to rove....
I'm in the market for one of these, and a 300tdi is fine - td5 preferred, but would go for a good 300tdi. But for that price I'd want a galvanised chassis. If it helps, at £6k I'd be interested, but then I am always at the low end of things..... Now, maybe my expectations are wrong, but I do find I eventually find the right car at the right price.... |

Thanks for the help everyone, really appreciated.
It is ironic that all the extras actually make it less attractive, but I can also understand that people want a blank canvas to start with! I'll get the A-bar, roof bars, driving lights and interior metal trim removed today to make it more standard. For the suspension though, I have been impressed at how well the body is controlled when driving on the roads. I wouldn't be against increasing the ride height, but I can't really justify spending parts and labour costs on making the car 'worse' by going back to standard springs and dampers. In regards to value, I have tried to ignore the unrealistically priced Defenders out there  I am only after a fair price for it, but as you'll all have seen Defender prices can vary wildly! I decided to use all the 300tdi CSWs on eBay as a guide, and this is listed lower than the rest (except for one older higher milage example). The blue one listed above sold for this price, and whilst it was tidy it wasn't even a genuine County Station Wagon...
I'll add some pictures of the chassis, to show the good condition it's in. |

Generally I like the standard no modifications type of vehicles. One thing to bear in mind if someone is looking for a people carrier the pre Puma Defenders are not the best with the sideways seats and I would hazard that folks who want to transport their kids in a 90 would probably look for a Puma 90 SW. Equally if someone just wants a vehicle to carry stuff they would just buy a van. After saying that there will be people who want a nice 300Tdi SW like yours but you may have to be prepared to wait for the right buyer.

The mod or no mod factor is interesting, when I was recently in a position where I had to sell but gladly not now, the completely standard TD5 pickup fully rebuilt attracted no interest whatsoever. In my opinion when they get to a certain age it puts people off, and restoration is not a factor when buying most expect it to be in very good condition.
Anyway good luck with the sale, my misses likes it told me I should convert my pickup to a county. |
