I bought my Defender 110 new in 2009, the only new car I have ever had.

When I was looking in the show room I said that I would not be driving miles to find a Land Rover agent for servicing.
I was told this did not affect the guarantee in any way so long as the garage used LD parts. So that's what I have been doing.

Maddison 4x4 are just down the road from Ripon, they're an independent Land Rover specialist, I get all my Land Rovers serviced there, much cheaper than main dealers and probably done to a higher standard...

Just let them know if it's still in warranty and they'll ensure only genuine parts are used as required for the warranty. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

It's the same with any car these days, it came in with EU 'block exemption' rules. Levi jeans tried to stop Tesco from selling their jeans more cheaply than Levi stores did, arguing that their staff in Levi stores had greater product knowledge. The EU took the view that Levi's were being uncompetitive and banned anyone from demanding their products only be sold via official stores this also effectively banned franchised dealers.
However car manufacturers argued their vehicles were more complex than jeans and they needed to be allowed to continue having their own dealer networks to make the business profitable. So they automotive block was given exemption from the competition rules providing they allowed anyone to repair their vehicles without affecting the warranty. Manufacturers also have to make special tools and tech data available to anyone who wants to purchase them.

But understandably most warranties have this buried in the small print rather than the first page of the warranty handbook. Technically it doesn't even have to be genuine filters etc, just filters of the same standard as the originals. But in practice as it's difficult to check an oil filter is identical to a genuine one it's best to use genuine.

To Another indy....

What does even the £590 actually cover?

I've had a full engine, oils, diff oil. gearbox, brakes discs and pad fitted for less... Very Happy at my local garage who just likes Landrovers.

Thumbs Up both sound a lot to me.

Don't forget the incompetent service advisers who know less about your Defender than you do. Whistle

When I wanted to buy my Defender I phoned the Landrover Agent in Aberdeen and said I wanted to buy a 110 Utility version the so called sales man said he did not know which Defender I was talking about. Now at the time LD had big whole page adverts in Scottish Farmer with his company being listed as a Scottish agent.

So I phoned another agent in Perth over 100 miles down the road who said it was their top selling Defender, so the Perth company got my sale. Anyway 9 years later still got the Defender and no plans to sell.

My 110 is serviced to Land Rover spec by a local Indie only used genuine parts and charges 50% of Ripon. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.
