I will be overlanding my 130 and spending fairly extended periods of time in campsites. I would like to be able to hookup to the available electric similar to the way caravans do, am I correct in thinking that all I need for this is:
- a camping power cable to 3 point mains socket cable (sorry I don’t know the proper names!) - a smart battery charger permanently plumbed in to the battery, like https://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/12v-10a-...DMQAvD_BwE Seems too easy! What am I missing here  |

No thats it. I use a CTEK charger but same idea. Look for a charger with more power than required just for your batteries, particularly if you are running a fridge in hot conditions. Go for a cable with the round blue mains connectors as this is used by a high proportion of European campsite but you will need some adaptors for the ones that dont use them, a common issue in the less developed areas. Depending on your travel plans if power is critical you may need 2 cables. At some sites the power can be a good distance away but one big cable can be cumbersome for most places.

I've got a shore power socket fitted to the 130 and a CTEK charger connected to it in the battery box.
As soon as I connect up, I've got 240v and the batteries are being charged.  Click image to enlarge |

Hmm, if you are running a fridge in hot conditions whilst not driving, plug it straight into the hook up and cut out the middle man (the charger) ! That's what I do, it saves charging batteries 👍 Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

Undoubtedly, confirmed if you look at the other posts that this person has made. Reported to our most excellent Admin.
Anyone considering fitting a mains hook-up to their Defender might want to be aware that BS 7671:2018, the 18th edition of the Wiring Regs, introduced considerable requirements and restrictions on vehicle/mains electrical hookups. If compliance concerns you it might be worthwhile and sensible to consult a sparky with the relevant knowledge for advice. |
