That's not normal. On a seriously cold day like -3 and lower, in stop start traffic it will cool down but apart from that the heater is nuclear unlike older vehicles. You need to get it looked at. 1951 80" S1 2.0

I do an 8 mile 15 minute drive most mornings (all 30mph roads) and in all but the coldest of days I'm reaching for the heater control to turn it down by the time the journey is nearly over because it's getting too hot.
From memory on this drive I don't think my needle reaches half way either, but it does rise a little after about mile or so and this is my notification to turn the heater on. Note that I usually keep the air in recirculate mode until the needle is on at least a quarter as I find this helps keep the heat in the cab, rather than filtering ice cold air in. I'd say you have a problem if it's not warm in 40 mins. My old TD5 would need a blast up the motorway to get any heat out  Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

I had a very similiar problem with my Tdci 2.2 ( didn’t have in on the 2.4 or TD5 I have previously owned ) had the thermostat changed and it certainly improved but having driven my wife’s 2.4 this weekend and my 2.2 the 2.4 engine warms up much quicker than the 2.2

If that fails and the 2.2 is just slow to warm (mines a noisy 2.4) then you could install a wading/snow blanket to the front grille. Google them and you'll see what I mean.

sounds like the thermostat has failed open.
You can remove them and test them, but they're so cheap I've always just fitted a new one. I mean if you test it and it doesn't work you'll need to get one anyway. |

I used to use a home made snow blanket, part of a cardboard box shoved in front of the radiator. It worked a treat and at the right price! However as said I firstly would put a new thermostat in, they can fail after a very few years or last a very long time!👍 strangely started my Puma cold this morning and the Ultraguage was already showing 30C, I will have too check that one out ASAP!

try running it with the heater off until the temp gauge starts to move as suggested ^^^^

mine takes a while to warm up but yours is taking a lot longer a thermostat change would not hurt . i must say iv been told many times a engine that warms up to fast has more problems than cold .

I had the same issue. It was a broken thermostat, replaced and working fine now.

Mine heated up quickly, but then cooled down just as quick. Slow green laning at a crawl in the Dales and the heater was barely keeping me warm.
