If MPG is so important, why buy any 4 x 4 , get a prius.

Doing 50 mph on the motorway is going back to the dark ages, get a grip, its dangerous as well

I totally agree !! 80 is a much more convinent speed !

and as for trucks limited to 55mph, someone ought to tell the f*cking drivers of those trucks not to over take each other on a m/way or dual carriage way. When i finally get past them they alsways get a long blast on the horn !!

I guess you've never driven a truck.

Yes I have & I know it doesn't take much to lift your foot of the gas, plain lazy !
There is a section of the A34 in Hampshire where there is a trial of no overtaking for HGV's do obviously there is a problem.
It makes a trip up north even worse being stuck behind one of these lazy f*uckers for five miles while he tries to overtake

Had 350 miles from my last three tanks (110).

Can't see it getting any better but TBH that's bearable for such a heavy lump of non aerodynamic metal! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

you probably think I'm bonkers (so does the wife) but I'm happy to take my time while driving and to be honest I don't get the impression I'm getting in the way. Haven't had any problems with road rage or similar from others.

I try and always be conscious of others and keep out of their way, never sit in the middle lane on the m'ways and I'm quite happy to get up a little earlier in the morning if its gonna help me save £20 on each tank of fuel

anyway the reason for this update was to say the trip meter is showing 431 miles and still no read light and suspect at least another 30 before it does show. so 33 -36 mpg is consistantly possible

Which will compromise your MPG. Why not unbolt everything that you don't use to get the weight down and see if you can get 600 miles out of a tank.

Can you remember back in the day around the mid 80 when everyone was hell bent on seeing how far they could go on a tank of fuel.
At the time I was an apprentice mechanic at Bengry Motors in Leominster. They were a Talbot dealer, this old boy bought in a Samba for a service. This car was part of a competition and it had all sorts of monitoring equipment bolted to it. He had been given a specific amount of fuel and the filler cap had a tamper device on it. Now not realising what all this stuff was for I got asked to deliver the car back to the guys house and pick up the loaner. I don't think he won Embarassed

you could also put on skinny road biased tyres and pump them up to 50+ psi.........

or just enjoy the Defender. BM52

I have never, on any of the past Puma's got much better than 25mpg

But on the way down to Croatia, was stuck on 80kph for most of the trip (German Police took exception to trailers doing any more Whistle ), and returned a steady near 31 mpg,, Thats fully loaded, rack, rooftent, RAI etc

The Miss daisy style was abandoned for the way back mind Thumbs Up California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

I'm happy plodding along at 56mph or 62mph with a speed limited Lorry or Coach.

What's the rush?
If I wanted to go fast, I wouldn't be driving a Defender. Laughing

I've never done a fuel MPG check on a motor (just don't want to know Shocked & venturing dangerously into geek territory! Rolling Eyes ) BUT I've just done 396 miles on 66.5 Litres or 14.62 Gallons and it comes out at 27MPG - PHEW! Happy with that. 290 miles in 3 long journeys averging 50 mpg and the other 100, stop, start and local stuff.

The 109 does about 15 MPG apparently Crying or Very sad
