just to let you know 500+ miles on a tank is possible although alot of patience is necessary.
492.3 miles and bong ! - red light. now done over 500 and will probably be at 505 - 515 by the time I get to fill up! thats 36 mpg, pretty poor by todays standards / average car but for the 110 that aint bad. thats without 2 stroke but on a 35% (ish) mix of bio and some diesel redex. if only my engine was consistant I sure I could get more out of it. when I say consisant I still think the EGR or something has an intermittent issue - I've been promising to buy a new MAF sensor to see if that helps but alas. anyone know the cost of these (Pete) ? |

part of me thinks this isn't all that amazing at all. I used to have a caterham and although it was well fast off the mark the top end on them aint all that due to the aerodynamics - a bit like the def. so to obtain max mpg its gonna have to be slow speeds to keep the drag factor down, hence I suspect people have commented on here before about getting just as many to the gallon driving round town as they do on the M'way. so of the 500 miles I've done two long trips from b'ham, one to Reading and one to Bristol at a nice lane blocking 50 - 55 mph 
the other circa 100 miles have just been pottering about, down to the tip, commute to the city centre etc. I have to say re; the 1 / 2 nd gear business I was really unsure to start with with I should use, not so much from a mpg perspective but cluth / gear box / wear tear point of view and now I use 2nd gear to pull off often with very few revs (assuming no incline or other adverse conditions). in terms of revs I change up at between 1750 - 2000 rpm and rarely above 2250. I think the key to this of course has been the 2 long return trips at low speeds. and to behonest with nice weather and good music (80's) - whats the rush ? especially with the cost of fuel and 20 pence / miles reimbersement from the company ! |

Recent long trip at max 60mph then lesser roads at max 50 mph resulted in 29.92 MPG for our 110 Puma. Return journey was better but did not get a chance to get a odometer reading before it was reset. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I bought mine in Inverness and drove it back to Wales on 80Ltrs 570 miles......Down hill all the way

If MPG is so important, why buy any 4 x 4 , get a prius.
Doing 50 mph on the motorway is going back to the dark ages, get a grip, its dangerous as well You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things |

I like the dark ages.....hence the 110.
you'll find some trucks these days are limited to 52 mph. pain maybe dangerous........only if there's f*ck wits on the road not watching where they're going
I here what you're saying and to be honest I'd normally go a little quicker (55-60) which is about the same as the majority of the trucks so no issues there with causes a rolling rd block. |

30+ mpg sounds really nice, and makes me wonder just what the heck I am doing wrong? 55 mph is a common motorway speed in Sweden (70 mph roads are quite scarce) and even though spending 90% of the tank on longer journeys I still haven't managed better than 23-24 mpg.

It is nice to know what your dependable range is,especially when travelling at night and fuel stations all closed. 60 mph is the general speed limit here on main roads with lesser roads being 50 mph. This was the journey I did on main roads-some at 60mph and some at 50 mph with all fuel stations closed. Motorways are not that extensive here but most are tolled. With road tax at 900+ euro per year I object to paying tolls on top of it.Besides the motorway network was not going where I was going. I think that the main roads and dual cabbageways are fine and more enjoyable to drive on than motorways. We have never had a car other than a Land Rover and I drive for a living. Not a good practice to suck up the last drop of fuel. Higher chances to get sh*t into the fuel system. Puma 110" SW

I totally agree !! 80 is a much more convinent speed ! and as for trucks limited to 55mph, someone ought to tell the f*cking drivers of those trucks not to over take each other on a m/way or dual carriage way. When i finally get past them they alsways get a long blast on the horn !! |
