Thank you... Still cheaper than replacing the car... Would that be recognised by the DMV?

I know they do a lot of it in Germany and that was simply the first one I found on Google. Probably possible to get cheaper if you can shop around. Getting it recognised may be another matter. They are certainly allowed in Germany where some towns and cities only allow cars with DPFs. Over there there is a procedure for upgrading your vehicles' emissions system to later standards. Not sure if the UK have caught up yet.

You have been very helpful, thank you... Now I have to find out whether the UK DMV will care at all if I install one of these filters.

Mine is an ex german td5. 2003 110.
It came with a still shiny DPF, all the documentation and a receipt for 1500€ in the cubby. Im told its elligible for a Euro3 sticker in Germany if I take it to the right place. Patrick |

A 2003 is an Euro 3 car. Nothing special needed for that. Roel

Well I live in London and it seems that my days of driving my 2003 TD5 Defender are numbered... I was hoping that some sort of filter and/or modification might please the authorities enough to allow its circulation and I was looking for such thing... So far I found these filters which would bring it to Euro4... What I do not know is whether that would make any difference for the UK DMV.

Are you talking about the the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) due to come into force 8th April 2019?
If so, you can carry on driving it and just pay the daily charge. Alternatively, it's Euro 6 for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles if you want to pay nothing. You are allowed to upgrade your vehicle to meet the required ULEZ standards or indeed, retrofitting emissions reduction technology. Do you live in the ULEZ? Registered residents who live in the ULEZ will be granted a time limited 100% discount to give them more time to change their vehicle to meet the ULEZ standards. The discount will be available to those who live in the ULEZ from 8 April 2019 to 10 April 2022 and will only apply while they live within the zone.
