The only 'grease nipples' with protectors I know are the brake bleeding plugs.

Never seen any on a propshaft - wouldn't they just fly off any fast moving parts?

I've always fitted grease nipple covers and haven't lost one yet off of a UJ or prop shaft. I bought them off eBay, search for RUBBER GREASE NIPPLE COVERS.

Did you jack up from under the axle? If you jack it up from under the chassis, this then let's the axles hang down - you still need the tyres off the ground, and this gives max axle travel / drop which widens the gap at the side of the universal joint - you should then be able to get the grease gun in then. Sometimes you can get into the joint from the side at around 2 to 3 o'clock if that makes sense. A decent trolley jack and a block of wood under the chassis rail helps |

Grouse - I must admit I jacked under the axle. Now you mention it, it’s obvious letting the axle droop will help access. I’ve got a needle adaptor for my grease gun on order- I shall report back if this gives sufficient access to do the front prop. If not I’ll have to stop putting off buying a new trolley jack.
