I have a Britax twin rotating halogen beacon on mine. I didn't want to drill the roof to install it and with it not being magnetic, that wasn't an option. So I bought a roof bar and attached the beacon to that so no drilling required. Because mine is a Ninety it has the roof vents in the back which allowed me to run the wires through there, so that may require some extra thought if you have a Defender roof to avoid drilling. I now have a roof rack so attached the beacon onto the back of that in the same way.
I have wired it so that it is permanently live so that it can be used without the keys in the ignition, same with the cheap work lights which are also on the roof bar. Click image to enlarge I also have a suction mount orange LED strobe in the windscreen which plugs into a 12v socket. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group |

Mine’s old style halogen rotating and magnetic/suction cup. Wired via side window into dash 12V socket.

Stick a bit of galvanised tin on the inside of the roof - double sided tape or sealant will hold it - gives the magnet something to stick on on the outside. |

What about LED lights stuck in all the windows or behind the grille? Just an idea for a more discreet fit. Lots of variety on eBay.

BW, have a few words with Duncan at K & S McKenzie if you want a few ideas. That is part of his daily job.
James, I had a few words with the lads at K & S McKenzie as I saw someone selling blue flashing lights. They confirmed they can only sell blue flashing lights to emergency services against an official order form as that is a legal requirement. Only emergency vehicles are allowed to have blue lights fitted. Another example of less then scrupulous selling tactics on ebay Brendan |

I use a twin LED rotator for my 4x4 Response activities, chosen because it's Regulation 65 compliant. It's magnetic and so is mounted on steel plates bolted to a roof bar. It's also rated for 70mph

For me, I have two LED amber strobes mounted in the front grill, a twin rotator on the roof, two rear mounted LED amber strobes just above the rear door and two LED amber strobes mounted off the rear reverse and fog lights.
If you want pics, no probs. So happens I am out tomorrow for a rally. I have purchases another 8 LED strobes to mount off the roof rack and replace the twin rotator on the roof rack. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |
