Battery on way out, the crank is taking the volts down too low so the alarm thinks the battery has been disconnected. After a run the battery is nicely juiced so either you have a drain on the battery or it's not holding charge.

Hi, the battery is low and needs charging.
Mine does it with lots of short runs in the winter, with lights, heater and wipers on most of the time. |

Long run won't save your battery, what you need is to hook it up to a Ctek (or similar) charger for a week or so.
Since I got retrenched in Oct and only drive my Puma every 4th-5th day, it's permanently hooked up to the Ctek  --

+1 for CTEK or equiv, battery always in top condition. 2 second connect/disconncet with a plug or fly lead by the passenger seat 2015 90 XS SW Bowler

I can't answer your question regarding CTEK vs Optimate, but I can say that I have been using a CTEK for the best part of 18 months.
I went from driving my Defender daily to now only using it circa once every 2/3 weeks - my battery was initially on its way out and the CTEK has not only resurrected it but keeps it in top top shape. I also have a CTEK on my 66 F100 which is used even less as its indoors all winter and only used in summer. Get a CTEK and get the connector (which Orchard mentioned) which you can wire up to your battery direct - which has a plug that you just need to plug into the CTEK cable. I had the same issue. My 110 is only used once or twice a week at most.
I found I had to use maintenance mode every time to prevent the annoying/embarrasssing siren when I started. Particularly annoying as the battery was otherwise showing no signs of age (it was original, 5yrs old, 20k-ish miles, good strong cranking, engine starting instantly...). I tried keeping it topped up with a charger but it got to be a bit of a faff as it lives on the drive. In the end I replaced the battery with a 100Ah Bosch S5 and so far this winter it’s not given a single blip on the alarm despite sometimes over a week of frosty inactivity between uses. |

Shhh...I have a skytag tracker on mine and I only use it on weekends so if I don't put it on the ctek at least for 24 hours every week it will be flat within 10 days......I don't leave it on permanently as I dont like giving potential thieves access to a 240 v cable and as its on the drive I don't. Want some kid fiddling with the cable and getting a shock!

Ive fitted an AA Solar panel in my back window, I think it was about £25 keeps the battery topped up nicely.

I have read this thread with interest. What happened with Mr Fishmaster’s Defender also happened for me so based on the advice given I purchased a CTEK & & have used it to top the battery up. It appeared to be successful however today when I was out, when I came to restart the vehicle a found that the alarm light was staying on. I showed it to the people who service the vehicle & they are going to look into it/find out more but I am mentioning it here to see whether anybody else has had a similar experience. I actually do not know whether it is connected to recharging the battery or whether that is just a coincidence. I am stumped for now though so any comments/anecdotes concerning similar experiences will be interesting for me.

Alarm light staying on means the battery in keyfob needs changing as it's getting low.

Hi Sockpuppet. Thanks for your reply. The people who service the vehicle did change the key fob battery but thereafter the problem persisted so that is why I am stumped & why they are going to look into it further. It does not seem to be affecting anything else. The alarm system works ok because we tested it.
