Yes be careful with weight.
Aside from the fact that all trailers built after 2012 need testing (IVA type test) Check the MAM of the caravan plate and also max draw bar and axle ratings. Most single axle caravans top out at the 1200kg mark. By the time you've built a bed, carry ramps and then add the vehicle you would be very close to that I would have thought 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I stripped a caravan with the intention of using it to transport a 4 metre SIB boat. There isn't actually a lot of chassis to them - just a simple rectangle - the rest is built from timber. However what was there was just in the wrong place, for my use. I scrapped it and bought a proper boat trailer. Have you compared build costs against a proper car transporter?

I am sure a mini weighs about 750kg if I am right, are you keeping the body of the caravan? or just using the chassis? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |
