V8 Defender - Diagnostic reading 02 Bank1 Sensor1 - 02 Trans
Hi
I have a 50th anniversary V8 Defender 90 and up until recently she purred as smooth as Pussy Galore. I must have upset her because she has lost her rhythmic purr and instead feels as if she may not be firing on all cylinders. She idles a little rough, especially from cold. If I run her for a while and turn off the engine, it generally now takes 2-3 turns to get her to fire. When she does fire its not instantaneous.....more like a slow delayed fire. Kind of like when you try to start a car that hasn't been started for a long time when it finally comes to life slowing picking up revs.......like that.

Anyway, I have a cheap diagnostics tool and checked for codes, but none were shown. However, I did notice the following:

02 Bank1 Sensor1 - 02 Transitions(s)
MOD: $E8
MEAS: 1.96
MIN: 0.00
MAX: 0.60

The measurement is way higher than the max.
I did a bit of reading and I believe this may be an 02 sensor for cylinders 1.4?

Any takers.

Certainly sounds like an o2 sensor playing up?

This may be of interest to you?

The 50th only has a single pair of O2 sensors at the front.

Wexford, if you give me the part numbers of your sensors, I may have one new.

There's 2 types of connectors to the loom.... I first got the wrong set... They're in my 'stock'!

Hi Everyone.
Thank you all for your advise.
Initially, I had wondered if this may be simply a fault with the HT leads but with my failing eyesight I could not see any arcing on the leads but could hear a faint regular spark. I hadn't checked any further on that route after reading the information from my diagnostic readings.

However, this morning I took her into a dark garage to see if I could see anything going on with the leads and there is a misfire on one of the HT leads. It's visually intermittent but if I touch the top of the lead with my finger it arcs to my finger. Not enough to make my hair stand on end, just enough to know there is a problem with that lead. The rest of the leads are perfectly fine......so with that in mind tomorrow morning I will be getting new leads and changing them.

Fingers crossed, this might be the problem.

Will let you know how I get on.
