Do you mean swapping the transfer box, or removing, rebuilding, and refitting the transfer box?

Do you mean doing the work yourself or getting someone else to do it?

I estimate that a competent mechanic with the right tools, parts (inc spares and service items) and experience would take a day to strip and rebuild the box on the bench, but this does rather depend upon them having several special tools and measuring devices or substitutes for same.

Removing and refitting the transfer box, with the right tools and equipment, is probably around three hours.

Just need a rough idea, As don't want a (well it took us three days to fit the diff situation) with the corresponding bill to boot... I find it best if you say... Ok it's x hrs for this given job (2016 90 with 3500miles so don't expect to many issues) but call me if you have a problem

I doubt if you need to take the transfer out off the car. But I am not sure about this. Roel

Can't help with the question I'm afraid, but... I'd be interested to hear your thinking for having the ATB in centre, as opposed to the rear or front diff?

Would it be worth checking the output shaft whilst out? James

It would be almost impossible to set the various bearing preloads correctly with the box in the vehicle, and I would not pay someone to do the job if they were that sloppy.

Agreed Blackwolf.... It's definitely a box out job.... Which is why I'll fit the ashcroft transfer shaft upgrade and a Bowler clutch kit

I am not an experienced mechanic I just maintaine My Landy's myself since 1995. Yes including my D3. I don't use micrometyers etc. You can adjust most thing on how it feels. I don't have a problem rebuilding a diff on the kitchen table. I am sure you all will say that it can't be done so:
