Yup, lots of discussion regarding the pumas liking a bit of a regular blat.

Short, stop/start journeys foul it up sooner than later. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

This may explain alot. It lived in london most of its life. Till i bought it. It also in that time averaged around 3,000 miles a year.

Is there anything that can be done to clean up the current turbo?

Well, there is carbon clean as you suggested, but I'm unsure how that affects turbos.

I'm no deisel mechanic, just repeating forum 'wisdom', but maybe take it out for a good blat up some hills/motorways at higher rpms? See if you can blow out any cobwebs?? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
