Hi, you could try
www.forum.bmw5.co.uk There is a section for the 7 series including the E38. I used it a lot when i had both my E39’s. Found the people there very helpful and knowledgeable - pretty much like here tbh. The E38 is a beautiful car. Definitely a classic. Hope you enjoy |

If you swap out your satnav and still want the original factory look, the mk4 is the one to go for. Although it’s still pretty archaic to operate compared to today’s devices. If you go for the mk4 don’t get stung on eBay with an expensive paperweight like I did! If you’re not bothered about an exact standard look, there’s lots of pretty choices of devices that can give you state of the art functionality for all current in car gadgetry. You’ll find it all on the forum.

MG ZT and Rover 75 used a disc based BMW sat back system. Updated discs seem horribly expensive. The system tends to develop a fault and flatten the battery by never going into suspend mode.
If you get the car I can send you a UK disc to try in it. I think you will end up having to update the ICE anyway as radio frequencies on the radio could be different as well. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

Thanks all. I dropped on to the suggested BM forum and from there ended up on this site: http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e38/ which is pretty cool and a great source of information. I think it already has the Mk1V system, because the box in the boot is clearly marked DVD and it looks like only MK1Vs had a DVD. That makes life easier as it should have European maps. The stereo will need the region changing with a navcoder apparently. Cool. Now need to decide whether to take the plunge.
