I suspect that the tear out issue is Landrover throwing away the book titled "Bi-metalic corrosion in the motor industry" and using a steel bracket bolted to an aluminium body panel in an area which will (at least in the country it was designed and built in) be subjected to water and other wet things on an almost daily basis.
I have fitted the Gwynn Lewis kit to mine including the rear crossmember mud shields. The brackets for the kit are 3mm thick galvanised steel and come with reinforcing brackets for the bottom edge of the wing. The instructions also give plenty of advice on getting plenty of the specified grease covering it to form a barrier and prevent further corrosion. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Surprised that this still happens to 110s today, this has been commented here for years in numerous threads. There is a easy to install and cheap solution available from the likes of Nakatanenga and Entreq in the form of a set of cheap SS brackets with the required insulating strips and paste to avoid bi-metallic corrosion. Price is less than 20€, and if installed from new or before real damage takes place they avoid all damage to the 110 rear arch panels. I think in the UK also avalable from Brendan. For all those with 110s who do not have these yet, get a set of those and screw them on without delay. Very easy. Pictures of the Entreq version below.

I have seen you recommending these in other threads while searching. These are £33 + £5 P&P... £38 for two bits of plate?!
I have a couple of metres of aluminium angle in the shed from another project... |

^^^^Don't mess about just fit this kit ^^^^. The standard brackets rot out after a few years anyway even if you repair the tub side. And most of the mud thrown from the wheel just gets chucked over the top of the mudflap and makes the rear cross member rot. The Gwynn Lewis kit stops all that, it's pretty much fit and forget, the brackets and reinforcements from Gywnn Lewis all all hot dipped galv, doesn't react with ally like stainless. |

I had this problem a few weeks ago and used a length of aluminium angle iron cut to around 200mm. I then drilled and riveted it in 4-5 spots. Refitted and you’d never know ! Should last a while
There was no way I was paying £30 for a couple of metal plates , bonkers |

Why is it people on this forum throw money at repair kits. As others have said too I just pop rivitted a small bit of Ali angle into the wing and refiftted the bracket, its been there for 5 years now without a problem He who dies with the most toys wins

Another +1 for angle aluminium. Did mine and pics in My Defender thread.
Some Naka stuff is nice, I was prepared to shell out for their leather door handles but £33 for two small strips of SS.. |

Cheap way to reattach the mudflap is the aluminium.
Good way to solve the problem is the Gwyn Lewis kit. |

If I recall I ground some flats on the edge of some washers as well. Not sure where they ended up and it's raining Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

+1 for aluminium angle, I repaired the “repair” the dealer carried out and riveted and bonded a piece of angle to the inside of the wing to reduce the to close the crack where road salt and crud could collect. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon
