Puma 2.2 DPF advice please
Hi
My hand book does not mention the DPF filter and also shows a LH picture of the dash layout so I presume the hand book deals with export or the 2.4 Puma.

As I understand it. If the DPF light comes on then I have to take it on a 20 mile / 50 - 60 mph trip to clear it and it will be a forced purge which means excess diesel is added which will to some extent contaminate the oil.
If on the other hand I take it on the 20 mile trip before the light comes on the extra heat will naturally purge the filter without the need for excess diesel

At the moment I am working locally ie city stop start traffice and use my LR to carry tools and materials. Roughly how many local/urban miles is it advisable to do before I purge it naturally and avoid the DPF light coming on?

Also is there any indication that purging is taking, or has taken place?

I also read on some posts that when the oil change message comes on at start up before the predicted oil change mileage may mean that the oil is being contaminated due to forced purges.

If you do any stretches of A road driving at normal speeds you'll be ok. I live around Leicester and do the same stop/start driving into town in the defender and never seen the light in 50k miles.

I'd only worry if the engine never got up to temperature at all and the trips were that short.

Thanks for that 110 very amusing and informative especially about other problems ie split hoses that could also cause a problem.
