Gear ratios - offset wheels
Hey there

Just bought another TD5 finally after a long search, keen on a disco transfer box or Ashcroft ratio change anyone out there have any advice on the best way to go?

Also car has come with Dynamic steels wheels with a fair offset, the car seems to jump around a bit so I'm wondering if it's
the offset?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Winter's here, thanks goodness!

Very much enjoying my Disco transfer box, contemplating chipping now...

I fitted an Ashcroft ratio, a bit time consuming but fun in the process and it makes a world of difference when you've finished. It's like a new car.

I took my transfer box out, took it to a Land Rover transmission specialist and they changed the ratios to 1:211. Then I put it back in. If your box is low miles I’d go down that route, unless you can find the exact disco box you need for good money with comparable mileage

I’m not sure, it was done for me at an Indy. I suspect they just did a swap out for an Ashcroft...

Got an ashcroft V8 5th gear in my box. It makes a noticeable difference on the motorway. Didn't want to go down the transfer box route as I do enough heavy towing that it would annoy me!

I have the Ashcroft v8 5th gear as well, albeit combined with slightly taller tyres (285 75 r16) and a remap, very happy with it. At motorway speeds it doesn't drop the revs quite as much as a 1.2 Tbox but I don't spend a lot of time on them and wanted to retain flexibility for towing trailers. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

I do a lot of motorway miles, I tend to slow down or wear headphones!

I changed mine to a disco 1.2 T/Box. very happy with it,
I don't do any towing with mine but on motorways and around down I feel the gearing is much better suited to my use.
70mph is very comfortable in terms of noise and vibration

Even well laden it still pulls fine on a standard engine

Cheers

If they’re a very low offset (stick out a lot) your scrub radius could be excessive at the front, this can lead to wandering or nervous behaviour over bumps.

It’d be worth trying a standard set of wheels to see if the problems goes away. 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2
