New wiper motor for Series 2a.
Can I have some advice please.

Two years ago I changed the original bulkhead on my 1962 Series 2a to a refurbished on from a later 1969 model which has the rack type windscreen wipers.
The wiper motor situated on the left (nearside) of the bulkhead has now burned out so it's replacement time.

Is the Series 3/Defender type windscreen wiper motor a direct replacement for the later Series 2a one?
I've been reading on the 'net that there are conflicting opinions as to whether it is.
Has anyone any recommendations as to the best one to buy?

Thank you.

It is a replacement. Not a direct replacement.
If the motor fitted to your bulkhead is an original one it will have a rectangular case. Series III and IIA Lightweight used a round cased motor. With the later brackets and rubber mount it can be made to fit. Connections are slight different as well. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

They are a standard Lucas motor used from Minis to Rolls Royces. Some are 2 speed, the older ones single.

My '69 2a had the round motor, as does my S3, I've recently retro fitted one to my 80 to dispense with those awful windscreen mounted ones.

I believe its even the same pondereous motor up to and including the TD5 Defenders (our tdci seems to have a better, more accurate and faster motor He who dies with the most toys wins Smile
