United Kingdom 2001 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Alpine White
TD5 Engine replacement
Hi
My Name is Brent and yesterday I picked up my new X reg Defender 110 crew cab from a specialist LR Dealer the car drove beautifully for the first 90 miles and then the TD5 let go, lots of conrod noise and smoke has anyone heard of this company here. The specialist I bought from is offering to fit another engine from a disco he just bought that failed on a rust issue
so not a fresh re built engine but just a swapper

I am thinking of using this company below to do the work instead, just really looking at all options before I speak to the dealer who sold me the car on Monday.

the above are offering new recon engines fitted for £1495.00 with i year guarantee I would love to hear from anyone who has used them
Thanks Broken hearted Brent.[/b] Brent

Surely if you bought it from a dealer then you'll have some kind of warranty or comeback on him.

Unless you're looking to pay for the new motor yourself, I would assume that you have to let the supplying trader have a go at fixing it.

I suppose you could reject the vehicle and ask for your money back.

At least you can hear and possibly try the replacement disco engine? You could also negotiated for new clutch / flywheel and any other major engine out jobs as a little recompense /goodwill at the same time.

Good luck

How much did you pay for the Defender? How many miles on the clock? How many on the Discovery engine?
If your new Defender is otherwise good then an engine swap will do it no harm.
TD5 rarely go bang, but there are a couple of known issues such as the oil pump bolt coming loose.
With any luck the replacement engine will be a later 15p version (post 2001) which was more reliable.
You could ask them to replace the exhaust manifold while they are at it, which will stop one known issue which is a warped manifold.

I will know a lot more today the dealer has collected yesterday,
I really wanted to know if any of the people here have used this company in B Ham it seems such a good deal with a full recon engine fitted for £1495.00.
Thank you again though for your kind responses, the 110 had done 108k miles Brent

Bad luck. I wouldn't mess about with it, just get your money back and find another one.

TBH a recon engine for £1495 inc fitting, has not had much of a recon, more likely a engine removed from a scrap motor like a Disco and tarted up.

Bad luck with the Defender, you could always ask for your money back.

Who is the specialist LR Dealer you purchased the Defender from?

You should not have to replace an engine at your cost after only 90 miles. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Correct me if l am wrong but the dealer has offered to replace the engine FOC.
And has lent the O/P a car?
You cannot expect a new engine to be fitted but a good used one, checked over and with a warranty.
If the Defender is a good one then why not let them replace the engine.

Correction there’s nothing about lending a car but you could ask for one if you go down that route.
