The CDE-133BT is a bit horrible when it comes to - well almost anything really. It does play MP3s off the USB stick but it must be formatted FAT32 at most and is also picky about the bit rate of the MP3 file.
I keep meaning to replace it with something better because the play/pause/next/back buttons don't work when connecting my my current phone via bluetooth. And as far as I can tell the firmware upgrade that Alpine have available on their web site doesn't work on the Land Rover version. The manual for it is here https://www.alpine.co.uk/fileadmin/user_up...3BT_EN.pdf. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

Thanks nosi, but anything more technical than me knowing it's an MP3 is getting beyond me.
![]() I'll just continue downloading to my phone and stream via the Bluetooth. Your right though not the best headunit but ticks a box at the moment 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

When you format a USB drive on Windows (no idea about Mac), the actual format depends upon the USB drive's capacity. This won't necessarily be supported by the radio. Especially as large drives end up formatted as xFAT.
I use a little utility called GuiFormat to allow me to specify FAT32. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll send you a download link to my copy (it's a freebie thing). |

I'm not a fan of Alpine for all these reasons. TheThunder Rollsπ¬π§πΊπΈ

Thanks AMB
![]() I think I've fixed the issue now ![]() So I've downloaded them again, put them on the stick as they came and its a simple plug and play. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

There is a firmware update available from Alpine. It helped with BT connectivity not tried with USB though.
The firmware has to be installed by Alpine on the defender unit, you have to remove the headunit post to Alpine, they will carryout the update and post back to you. From memory it took about a week. For me it made the unit far more useful until I can fit a double din unit. Hope this helps. |
