All in £180 (haven't seen breakdown yet parts/labour). Will take your guidance if that's reasonable or not as afraid I'm pretty clueless in these matters. I'm guessing no more than 1-1.5 hrs labour including diagnosis of problem/test drives etc. My gut reaction was that considering I turned up at 7.30am this morning unannounced and by the time I go home tonight, I'll have her back sorted, then just in terms of minimal hassle for me, that was a pretty fair deal. Ah I spoke too soon.....
Phone call from Garage an hour ago..... 'We cannot get the hub off that covers the bearing' They've been trying for last three hours and all advice from local landy garages is 'keep hitting it until it free's up' They reckon the fricton from the kaput bearing has generated sufficient heat to almost seize the hub in place. So no Landy for me tonight..... Suspect it may cost a bit more than £180 now ! Now...... How to get home and back to the office tomorrow......... Taxi for Party Monkey please Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. The good news....
Bearing replaced and all sorted. Fair play to little local garage. Stuck to their price and despite my protests even discounted it tenner (parts £65, labour £105). The bad news.... SWMBO+the kids picked me up from the office last night. On route to pick me up, they stopped off at toys R us and dropped a small fortune. Then they insisted I took them all to Frankie and Bennies for tea as a thankyou for being my taxi service. All in, this cost me more than fixing the bloomin' Landy Just for record, if anyone local to Oxford looking for decent little general garage (they not landy specialists), then T J Hall Motor Engineers in Sandford on Thames get my vote Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |
