Reversing camera
After one too many close call when reversing my 110 DC i think it’s time to invest in a reversing camera. The canopy on the back severely limits the visibility.

I don’t really want an extra screen in the cab, and I’ve already got a decent head unit in the vehicle so don’t particularly want to go the double din route.

I have seen the systems which utilise a screen on the rear view mirror but have absolutely no idea if these are any good or not. Has anyone got a system fitted that really works well.

I had a quick search but didn’t have much joy

Dave

Not a rear view mirror screen, but this is how I solved the problem: I made a flipscreen on the front of the cubbybox:

I have a £30 eBay special rear view camera with a screen that clips over the rear view mirror in my Amarok. The quality of the image is excellent and it was very easy to install.

I have mine wired from a 12v supply so that I can look at it whenever, rather than just off the reversing lights like most are powered. That way it kinda doubles up as your rear view mirror too, depending on the angle at which you mount the camera. Mine is mainly for hitching up my caravan and to stop me backing in to things - I backed in to a Ski chalet a couple of years back as I was ignoring my parking sensors, thinking they were just detecting the snow bank I was close to Embarassed

I'll dig out a link to it in a sec.

Has two channels so you can add another camera or possibly even a video input from a tablet or DVD player etc.

It's quite a large unit but if you mount it up high enough it's not intrusive.

Also when it's off it doubles as a dimmed rear view mirror, not that it's much use on a double cab with a trucktop anyway.

I have mine wired to the 12v socket in the dashboard so that it is live whenever the ignition is in position 2, and the screen has it's own button for switching it on and off as required.

The instructions with the unit tell you to wire it with the reversing lights Smile

J@mes,

Any chance of a photo to show where/how you've fitted the camera to your Amarok?

SWMBO has asked me to magic up a reversing camera for her L200 and your solution looks both good and remarkably good value. I'd be interested to see where you've put the camera and what it looks like.

Thanks. Thumbs Up

Thanks for digging out the link. I will have a look if the same people do a wireless version as running the wiring in a double cab will probably be a bit of a pain
