Hello. I did mine, but black to silver. Fine wet and dry to key the plastic. Plastic primer, colour (two coats) and then lacquer.

I made the same colour change on mine. I think I got my paint from Homebase and it was Rustoleum “direct to plastic” stuff and worked really well.
Apart from some decent prep I think the key is to make sure that you apply in thin coats otherwise it’s easy to get runs in it. The other thing is that it seems to work better if it’s warm so either wait for a bit and do what I did and wait for the wife to go out and do it on the kitchen table! (The spraying I mean!!) |

It's on my list of jobs too. I have everything for the job but my get up and go has well you know... When you get into it spray painting is quite enjoyable and when it turns out well is quite rewarding. James

You are not wrong JOW it is a fab pastime, I do find it amazingly relaxing. Do not be worried if you make a mistake, you can always rub it down and respray. Just allow the paint to completely dry before rubbing it down.

Make sure you spray with humidity no higher than 60% and temp at least 20.C +
Tac cloths, PPE and panel wipe are required too. You are highly likely to have contaminants on the grille which will need removing. So I would water wash it, panel wipe it, key it, wash it, panel wipe it. This way it will be as clean as you can possibly get it. Keying the plastic primer you could really do with a guide coat, I find the grille a real PITA due to its awkwardness with any sanding. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
