BAS intercooler and silicon hoses - first drive
Finally had my first drive in the 130 today after doing the following

1) Removal of water separator in airbox - have not cut out the restrictor yet....
2) BAS intercooler
3) BAS silicon hoses - Both fitted with airbox in situ
4) Nugget intake kit

So here are my impressions. It pulls cleaner from idle to 2000rpm. No hesitations. Smoother in stop start traffic with jerky stuttering totally gone. M25 today at 7am confirmed this clear improvement! Slightly quicker throttle response but doesn't feel faster at all. And, it makes a noise like Darth Vader gurgling on mouth wash on some throttle openings - window closed can't hear much difference.

What I haven't managed to do (see also 'find') is where the last silicon hose is meant to go and how to change it! It's the smallest little elbow and no one appears to have talked about fitting that one on this forum? Some decide it's too much work.

Totally standard. The re map on the cards for this year before morocco. Mind you, quite fancy the full uprated VGT turbo now !! 1951 80" S1 2.0

Hi Familymad

The small elbow goes from the bottom of the turbo onto the end of the steel pipe feeding the intercooler on the RH side of the engine. It’s a pain to do, I ended up seeking advice from Pete Bell to get it done. His advice included remove top of fan cowl, release tension on the belt, unbolt water pump (don’t disconnect any hoses), and push it back, this will give you some space to gain access to the turbo hose. The new silicone hose was an ultra tight fit and took a serious amount of hot water, soap, jiggling and swearing to make it fit!!

Hopefully yours will be a bit easier than the full day I spent tearing my hands to pieces Thumbs Up

Totally agree with John, it's a pig to get on. Some blokes say you don't have to move the water pump, but I found the same as John that loosening the water pump gives you that little bit of extra space to get the hose in. It's only one more bolt to remove after taking out the two bolts that hold the steel connecting tube in position. Be prepared to loose some bark off your hands and don't have the kids anywhere near because you will be cursing a lot. Rolling Eyes

Interested in your intercooler/hose mod and even more interested to hear what the addition of the remap will in due course bring.
I see you have the Nugget intake modification.
That and a free flow exhaust make noticeable difference to how the motor revs and responds to throttle. I have their large diameter aluminium RAI with the intake mod, and have no silencers in my custom made side exit exhaust (vehicle isn´t any louder than before, cat is still fitted) and am impressed how sporty the throttle response is.

Concerning the lower elbow. in my view it has to be worth doing as that particular hose does split after a while. I wasn´t aware of the problem until on a UK trip we suddenly experienced loss of power accompanied by a whooshing sound when pressing the throttle.

I soon concluded it was a hose, but looked all over the engine bay and couldn´t identify where it was coming from. The upper two intercooler hoses were intact. It was Sunday evening, so i posted in the forum and immediately got helpful advice and was informed that a specialist workshop (Keith Gott) was nearby. We stayed in a hotel and arrived there Monday morning. As their workshop was fully booked, their parts manager stepped up and offered to do the job. i watched and was fascinated how many parts he had to remove to get to the hose. It is on the nearside (LHS) of the motor and extremely tight. He acheived the job within about 45 mins, but knew what he was doing.

If I remember rightly, my 2.2 had 65000 km and was four years old when the hose went.

That sounds like a job for March or April. I have a history of immobilising my Landies just when the snow starts!!! Big Cry

The hose next to the airbox was a real fight and having air con didn't help. The viscous fan just wouldn't budge off so access was a pig overall. Copious amounts of hot water and washing up liquid are indeed your friend.

Will post some pics of the hose that went on ours. It had been sliced by the alternator I believe. Just nicked it and then she blew. Happened 60 miles after getting off the ferry from 2000mile Pyrenees trip. Would have been a mare to fail in some of the spots we ended up Crying or Very sad 1951 80" S1 2.0

Had a split turbo hose followed by the inter cooler hose on my previous 130 when the garage drove the car back to me. That’s the main reason I ordered the silicon hoses.

Worried that silicon or not, it could do this again.... hoping that the damage was done pre alternator strap modification. 1951 80" S1 2.0

And because I’ve been too busy with work and some personal issues I had the pleasure today to experience the same as with my other 130. Hissing noise combined with lack of power followed by an error.
Managed to stop at a petrol station to pop the hood. Found the crack in the in the intercooler hose.
Bought some ductape in the shop and carefully drove the car home.

Now... How on earth people manage to install the silicon hoses is beyond me! 🤬
