Love Vera and love that untouched 90 she drives, full of character. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I'm not so sure that it is full of character. I've read that the rust is painted onto the panels to give it patina and it has an auto conversion because Brenda can't (won't?) drive stick. |

Yes I have read that also thought it was originated from a forum hosted by Piston Heads and the topic had nothing to do with the subject matter of Vera's Land Rover.

Personally, I do not believe a word of it especially as on several shots you can see the gear stick. Also, Benda Blethyn says the majority of motoring scenes I drive myself but confesses she has a driving stunt double who has got a ginger beard! "So if it's a close up you might check the stubble!" I did wonder about the rust comment... we all know that all you need to do is park them outside and not maintain them to get that effect
The auto part didn't surprise me because I would imagine that it is easier not to have to worry about shifting (and being smooth) when you're doing in-car filming. |

Wouldn’t like to meet him dressed as Vera down a dark alley, i think it would be a wholly unnerving experience Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

My farther in law provided a series 3 for a welsh tv program and the actress could only drive a auto so the one time she was in driving he suposingly had to hide in the passenger footwell and instruct her how to change gear.

It's definitely an auto conversion, you can see it in one of the scenes in the latest episode.

I seem to recall an issue with manual gear boxes and Aston Martins when Daniel Craig got the Bond gig? I think you would need to be brave to hire a vehicle (especially an old valuable one) to any TV / Film production company. I have heard horror stories of damage on their return. The TV / Film world think they can just pay out money to fix a problem, but it can't ever replace originality. Back to Vera, I have just watched the first one. I think for a southerner, Brenda Blethyn does a fair job at a north east accent (my Aunt's a Geordie and may have a different opinion to me). |
