Looks like I caught this just in time......or a bit late.....

Just goes to show how quickly these can deteriorate as I cleaned it and sealed it a couple of years back before a holiday with the trailer.


Thankfully a nice new OEM fitted in probably less than 1/2 hour Thumbs Up

Although both are/were OEM, the newer one has a far better seal. Well worth the £40 quid or so for peace of mind, and might be worth others checking theirs given the annoying faults these can cause when they suffer from water ingress Thumbs Up

What are others using to keep the pins in good shape? I use Vaseline but not sure if that's the best idea?
A mare of mine used to use Copper Grease......

WD-40 which acts primarily as a dehumidifier works very well. ACF50 is more of an oily grease with anticorrosion capacities would be equally good. I spray WD-40 once a month or so into both trailer sockets and they stay as new for many years now already.

I did consider WD40 for the obvious reasons, but didn't think of using my ACF50 to be honest - I might give it a go considering I use it all over the truck anyway. I know both force moisture out so generally that'd be good preventative maintenance Thumbs Up

The newer Land-Rover kits have the backs of the sockets filled with glue/plastic rather than just the rubber boot so they're completely waterproof from the rear.

The 13pin sockets (like all 13 pin sockets) also have stainless steel tubes, so they don't corrode like the brass 7 pin ones.
