Is that same engine as used FFRR and Discovery 3s though think the LR version was 4.4 instead of 4.0/4.2.

Not sure, but they are fairly cheap to buy. Would prefer a 3.9/4.0/4.2 rover item, but not many about that seem worth a punt 80" 1948

The jag engine is a lovely lume (my dad has a supercharged XJR), even with 100k miles on it, it still goes like the wind.
waaaay better than any rover single cam engine will ever do. Another one to look for is the Lexus V8. think that works with its own stand alone ECU like the rover 3.9/4.2 does instead of needing half the car connected up as well. |

Only thing to worry about is fitting it all together. 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |

Yes same lump. The 4.4 was the normally aspirated one, used in mainly US market Range Rovers as the economy option (Diesels not so popular). The 4.2 was normally supercharged. |

Electrics are where these more modern engines get tricky. You need to find someone who has done it previously.

I think this is a popular swap in South Africa. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Good luck to ya. This be a hell of a build. Id love to see someone try it.
I went the "easy" route with the ancient RRC v8 engine, but your build will be nothing like as straightforward. Some thoughts, whilst thinking about it.... that engine will have multiple ecu's, probably an engine ecu, definately a gearbox ecu and probably one for body control. If your lucky you can pull them apart and they wont mind, worst case it wont start because it cant chat to all the other ecu's etc etc. Will the jag gearbox work? id have thought you may have to use the ZF box out of a d3 maybe? more ecu woes here, but it would mate up to the engine I guess. Need to think about an LT230 adapter so the gearbox can be mated up to the defender drivetrain. I think JE have done this? but not sure if they sell as a kit, youd have to ask. Last thing, you probably wan to budget for some drivetrain upgrades to handle all that extra power. definately diffs and halfshafts for a kick off. Anyhow, good luck! a build log is mandatory as this would be a great route if it can be made to work easily. Other options (more of a well trodden path perhaps) would be some kind of Ls3, or even a lexus as above. |
