At some point, when I get my a*** into gear, I'll get my remap sorted, hopefully in the next couple of months, so this question has nothing to do with whether I should or shouldn't and by whom. It's going to happen, Bowler or BAS. But as I was bimbling along last week dreaming of that moment, I wondered if a remap in anyway makes the engine (in my case the Puma 2.4) feel and sound less agricultural? I appreciate the improved BHP, Torque, Delivery, Usability and mileage, but does it smooth out the engine vibration and sound? Just curious, especially to hear from those with remapped 2.4s. My 2.4's were treated to the Bas system ,, Both were quieter, along with better performance
But the 2.2 Bas map i have now, feels and sounds even better than i remember the 2.4 were Would i do the same again,, YES California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

My BAS remap on 2.2 certainly makes it feel less agricultural, I can't say it sounds any different, but much smooth more drivable, less gear changing! Honestly IMO you won't regret it! James

It was a nice improvement on my 2.4. I had the Alive remap on mine.
Donโt think it makes it any quieter, maybe alittle smoother though. Go on, get it remapped! |

EGR bypass actually made mine louder..
But then the pilot correction stuff you do before the BASS remaps quietens it .. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

can't say I've noticed but 100k + miles and having had the map for over 50k of that the engine is a sweet and feels like a new motor just run in.
what little I know about the maps I don't see how it could make it any quieter or smoother (smoother in terms of pick up / power delivery yes) but not smoother like going from a 4 to 5 cylinder. As noted above the pilot learn will certainly help in the area of noise / smoothness as it's making sure everything is timed to perfection. other than that the egr being blocked may well make a difference in terms of smoothness / noise for the better or worse I don't know but it'll certainly help with your mpg. enjoy. Yes - my BAS remap does all of the above. Incidentally - pleased you've got the Defender back, let the mods continue Last edited by shropshiredefender on 5th Aug 2018 12:25pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Thank you Empire. Sadly, despite having friends in Essex and this being as good an excuse as any to get my visa and vaccines done to visit the county, at 2000km for a round trip, you are a tad far. It'll have to be a local BAS agent or (more likely) the BAS remote system. But given I've just chucked almost 2000โฌ into an output shaft and clutch replacement, it's on the back-burner.
