I used a pair of flooded Vartas, but I believe the earlier Defenders had a slightly different size of battery box?

i have used:
2 x Numax CVX27 to really good effect in 3 vehicles -. one as camping based, other two as winch vehicles.https://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/productp...oupID=8800 Also used Enduroline equivalent. One set of batts is still going strong 9 years on. One set i swapped out last year for two PC15000 but the Numax will be going back in. other winch vehicle i sold last year, chap was out today in it, still running same batts, been in there 5years. Are the NUMAX the same size as the ODYSSEY? Fitting 2 X PC1500 in. That is some going. I think I have 2X 1200(?) and that was a squeeze in the PUMA. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

I'm just about to replace the 2x optima red tops in my 110. they still work but lose charge after about 5 or 6 days of non use.
They've been in various LR's of mine for the last 18 years, so have lasted pretty well! they're just wired in parallel at the moment. In a previous 90 they were powered by 2x alternators with a link switch if I needed an extra boost (so both charged separately) Running either a husky or 8274 winch. They've been worked hard, and I've gone for the same to replace them. Last edited by diesel_jim on 4th Jan 2018 7:34am. Edited 1 time in total |

Have now pulled the dead Oddyssey batteries out of both of mine and replaced one set with Numax batteries and the other with Enduroline batteries at a fraction of the cost of the Odysseys.
For the competition/winch motor I went for two batteries the same as they are permanently connected in parallel, for the overland motor which has an isolator between the two batteries I went for two different ones, one normal car battery and the other a leisure battery. Fitting the first two was a bit of a chew as the Numax 086 batteries were slightly too long for the D44 holder so I had to modify the holder. Armed with that knowledge, the second set I ordered after checking the dimensions first against the D44 carrier whilst getting the biggest capacity I could fit. I did have to replace the D44 bolts with threaded rod though as the batteries were too tall for the original bolts to fit. Got them through Tayna batteries online where they list all the dimensions and they deliver at a good price. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I use Numax batteries at present, good solid long lived batteries. Optima are not the batteries they once were and I'm wary if the price/hype surrounding Odyssey batteries.
Bang for buck you can't beat Numax. Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |
