I'm that far away from the local(?) exchange that I switched to cable. More expensive but saves getting constantly angry. Very Happy

Bloody hell Mr Flips, that is fast.

Im less than 2 miles from the exchange, but best i get is 4.5Mbps.

Cables is the way forward, but I have no chance of getting that.

A ping is when one device talks to another, bit like a door bell, how long does it take to push it.
Normally you ping a device like a computer or a DVR to see if its working.

When you ping you get the reflection time back as the responce.

So, the smaller the time of the ping the better, but saying that if i pinged the PC upstairs i would expect a good time! All relative I guess.

You can use the run command and type in ipconfig, get your details, then type in ping and the IP from another pc and get the responce time

We do when im either on duty (every other week) or working from home.

Signals ok without it - but its better with it.

Ive never tested the speed after plugging it in - but thats the only change other than time of the day Mike

Not available down here yet. Darn.

2.5-3MBS for us - bearable I guess. New Mac Book Prp (had it three weeks) is nice though even if the connection isn't the speediest! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

I achieved this by replacing the cr@ppy BT router (v3 hub) with a netgear - much faster now. the BT router "hosts" their free network and must use some bandwidth. also their hub strips out uPNP broadcasts, this stopped my uPNP amplifier (Naim Uniti) from communicating with the iTunes server. WHy can't bt just supply a straightforward router .. or not bother at all?
