My apologies if this is an exhausted topic - I have searched everywhere and arrived at similar but not identical problems with other owners. I want the immobiliser removed forever.

Symptoms: engine cut-out at idle. No crank when trying to re-start. Sit for a few hours and re-start fine. I've ruled out starter motor, fuel pump etc. It's the immobiliser - that's the thesis I'm going with and I want it out.

First thing: locate the immobiliser- I think the black box screwed to the forward panel of the battery compartment is my immobiliser headquarters. There will be a relationship with the green box which sits screwed to the fire wall behind the dash but for now, I've blasted open the black metal box.

There was no performing the operation in the vehicle so I bit the bullet, labelled and then severed all 7 wires going through the grommet and into the box.

I then broke open the black plastic box which sat inside the metal one.

I discovered that the immobiliser bypass clip I purchased for this operation is entirely different form the ten-pin plug-in sitting on the circuit board !

Have I arrived at the wrong destination? Is this an immobiliser circuitry I have before me on my desk? Or have I broken into something else?

Any help appreciated !

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, you've chosen to start with a particularly thorny subject. Because of the problems with Defender thefts, few will be keen to help with information on how to find, disable or remove factory fitted security, particularly for a new poster that nobody knows. Darren

I have a similar issue. I have a 98 300tdi with immobilizer. It is currently working fine but I want it removed before I go traveling next year. I was going to take it to a garage to get this done as at least you will have reciepts etc for the future if it comes to selling.
