Venting a Yuasa 019 Black battery
I've just picked one of these up but have a couple of things to figure out, both around venting, and wondered if anyone else had fitted one.

1 - What looks like the vent plug is by the -ve terminal, on the other side of the battery. Is there a good place to get a longer vent tube or is it worth just drilling another hole in the bottom of the battery box?

2 - Before I even get there -- the Yuasa spec sheet says this is end venting rather than using the usual vent plugs*. Does anyone know what that implies for venting through a tube?

(* more specifically it's:

"There are now several batteries in the range that have end-venting, rather than the normal venting through the individual vent-plugs.

A • in this column shows that the battery is fitted with end-venting at the negative end.
The battery is fitted with a gassing outlet according to EN60095-2 + EN50342.2 2007 item 5.5.3 and Figure 10 to allow remote venting of the battery.") 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

The battery box is a long way from air tight. I wouldn't worry about it. Darren

and my original 2010 factory fit battery had the vent tube on the positive end anyway. I just plugged the exisiting hose into the new yuasa battery.

If there isn't already a hole in the end under the positive terminal then you can just extend the pipe with a bit of screen washer tubing.

Don't quite new but I think there is a drain hole / vent in the bottom.
But a proper external vent is best.

I did look at the box and think it looked a bit swiss cheese anyway -- suspect it gets a decent airflow at the best of times Smile Will look at some screen wash tubing for it -- searching for "battery vent hose" looks to be a good way of finding expensive ways of buying short lengths of plastic tubing.

If it's water breaking down it's likely to be hydrogen and oxygen I'd guess?

Thanks all! 2009 110 XS Station Wagon
