I would suggest it's more complicated...and add any 3G service is worse.
You get good results when a company has their kit in a Bt exchange...sky was good...but other than££ we never had a problem with Bt...but got faster speeds with sky Mike |

We are way faster with Sky, and cheaper.
Something to do with more people on our exchange being with BT than Sky, so the "contention ratio" (??) is better with Sky (just now) But Sky are not so good with problems. Example, for the past 2 Fridays, have woken to no phone or Internet - first time, on to Sky to tell them. They do the normal trace which comes up inconclusive. meanwhile, I find out that the whole feckin underground cable has been nicked, knocking the whole village off. It takes about 24hours to fix, and all goo. Wake up on the Sat morning to text from Sky saying - we've fixed your fault. Same thing happened on 2nd week. Same thing with Sky, even though I told them the cables had probably been nicked. Aw well. 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

I have just cancelled DEMON (now part of Thus plc) who I have been with for years due to their speeds coming down whilst failing to bring the prices down. I have moved to BE Unlimited www.bethere.co.uk they have their own gear in our exchange their customer services are excellent and they are less than 50% of Demon. Try searching on internet for ADSL2 and the name of your local exchenge and you wil find who has their own equip in the exchange, most just piggy back on the old BT equipment and hece get poor speeds and low contension ratio (sharing bandwidth during period of high demand - i.e 3pm onwards once kids are home) 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

Just had mine sorted - kept dropping all the time.
Turned out to be my router - the engineer supplied a new BT HomeHub 2.0 and wrote it down as a dodgy earth so no charge. Runs at about 3MB/s - not bad for this very rural location! Worth getting them onto it - but yes the call centres are very trying. Fibre on it's way here very soon. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

I'm with AOL 100% reliable service and via wired router not wireless cxxp. Get pretty much 3.8MBPS consistent any time of day or night. Which I think is good (I'm out in the sticks) £15 - £16 a month you can probably find cheaper but what use is cheaper when it don't work properly or reliably. It's like comparing the Landy to a citroen
