Wiper speed issue
The very fast speed on the Puma wipers doesn't work. Intermittant and normal speed are fine. Any ideas? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

If all other speeds work normally then chances are it's the column switch. Do they just stop? Or do they not increase in speed? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

When the stalk is moved up from normal speed to very fast, the wipers just stop. Sometimes it is possible to get them to move but they only drag across the windscreen very very slowly. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

In that case it could be that the second motor winding has failed, only way to know for sure is to test the wiring at the motor end and check voltages Sad 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Having said that, as the column switch is easiest to remove, you could test that first before getting access to the motor Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Thanks to you all for the replies. All of the above had crossed my mind but I wondered if anyone had had the same issue and had a definitive fix Very Happy My 2011 Puma had developed a problem whereby the wipers would barely move. This turned out to be corrosion on one of the spindles under the rubber cover where it enters the bulkhead. I just cleaned it with sandpaper and lashed on the WD40 and it cured it. There is no visible corrosion on the spindles of the 2008 Puma with the fast wiper problem so it must be one of the above. There was a good posting not so long ago about replacing the park switch behind the dash without removing the dash.. I'll order this switch in and check it and the stalk first. Thank you all. Just so you know, the park switch only does that, parks the wipers when you switch them off. To save the agro I wouldn't change it unless it has failed Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

O.K. I'll leave the park switch be. Where is the relay unit and what needs checking? I've lashed on the WD40 on the outside of the spindles. I'll ad some more over the next day or so. Don't use the very fast speed as a rule and just found out it wasn't working correctly by chance. I just need to make sure it is working for when the vehicle goes to the test centre next year. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I'm not sure where the relay is on a puma. My guess is under one of the dash flaps. All you can test really is that it is secure. Have you another defender to swap wiper relays with? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

My wipers on my last Puma went bonkers, going slow, then fast, intermittent all over the place & refusing to park...changed the wiper relay & all was good, it had got wet inside & the spades were corroded. When I removed it the wipers worked perfectly on fast, slow, but wouldn't park suggesting that the relay overrides the normal wiper function.

The bit in question:

My 300TDi Wolf also had the exact same problem with water in the actual relay housing, no need to change the part as sandpaper & WD40 fixed it. Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains
