I can really relate to the 15 minute rule. I struggled with Russell Crowes Gladiator. Took about the fourth try to watch. Glad I did persevere, but as you say most of the time, it's not worth persisting with garbage films.
I never have seen Star Wars (the original). Got took as a kid to see The Empire Strikes Back, but never bothered with Return of the Jedi. At that stage of my life it was Convoy (Kris Kristoffersen, Ali MacGraw), Smokey and the Bandit, Canonball Run all of which I think are still worth a gander - just excuse the flared trousers and they can be a little politically incorrect. |

We're going to spend all winter getting through all your recommendations (obviously, some of them we've seen). Just started watching Ozark. Watched the first two episodes last night, will watch another two tonight. Very Breaking Badish, and that's a thorough recommendation. The Americans do this type of stuff so well. Thanks for the suggestion, alwoodley72 and others. Now left.

Zipped through the Ozark series. Very good. Obviously a second series will follow - too many loose ends left.
Just wanted to say that if anyone hasn't seen No Country For Old Men, then turn the lights off, mute the phone, and strap yourself in. Saw it years ago and still remember that shop scene with the coin toss. Mrs Puddle has compiled a list of all your recommendations, so we have over-Xmas viewing set out. Now left. |

Was gonna suggests Moon, but Nitram already did, So i'll suggest Moon.
Basically Hollywood remade it later and for me at least, as usual lost all the emotion, then added characters/plot that pretty much negated all that was good about the Original. And Dog Soldiers. 3 Landrovers |

The Wizard of Oz, any Carry On film, any James Bond movie with either Sean Connery, Roger Moore or the one with George Lazenby, Sense and Sensibility (the one with Jennifer Ehle) on for one complete day going round and round incessantly, Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Home Alone 3, Home Alone - were going to screw the living daylights out of this franchise before his voice breaks, The Snowman (just so you can hear little Aled Jones sing).
Just saying, I wouldn't want you to feel left out this Christmas by not having a TV Licence. Look at what you could be missing |

Not films but my wife and I both enjoyed watching Brendan Gleeson in Mr. Mercedes, a cop thriller adapted from the Stephen King book, the quirky Tin Star with Tim Roth and Big Little Lies with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.
Also give Longmire a try out, now on series 6 but ends to stay under the radar. |

Rashers: Every so often, we catch TV at my mum-in-law's. Can't believe that there is even more trash now than there ever was, and that the ads are so 'ethnically over-representative' now.
Mrs Puddle likes all the Xmas films, whereas the only one I think I've ever liked was Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I thought I would like It's A Wonderful Life, but I think it's dross. I thought I'd hate Love Actually, but quite enjoyed it (it helps that Elisha Cuthbert is in it). I can't stand Emma Thompson! The one thing that always baffles me is why people want to watch the pure misery that is Eastenders, but especially so on Christmas Day! I won't believe our nation has grown up until its television does. I'm in a minority, I suspect, but the incredible crap that passes for TV entertainment stuns me. Don't get me wrong, I can understand people just wanting to be entertained, but the level of entertainment is puerile (I think!). Again, thanks Swac3 and Mariner - will check those out. Now left. |

Puddles, I've cut my cable for the same reasons as you. Political propaganda in America is at its peak. It's in music, movies, sitcoms, sports etc.
Breaking bad was an awesome show. Another to check out if it's still on Netflix is Jericho. It's two seasons long and is about nuclear bombs going off in America in major cities and anarchy that ensues as the military breaks off into factions. An awesome little known movie on Netflix is Dale and Tucker battle evil. Hilarious horror movie. |

Got The Muppets Christmas Carol on the telly, putting the tree and the decorations up, bought my tacky Christmas hat from the garden centre this morning, got my Christmas tree for my office desk, Christmas Jumper primed and ready to wear, does it get any better than that?
Please, no derogatory remarks about the Muppets. It is a thing of my youth which must never be tarnished |
