Age vs Miles
Hi all,
What’s the general rule on miles per age .... I’m looking at a 14 plate 90 in good condition with a full service history.
My only concern/issue is the fact it has 62000 miles on the clock, this is motorway miles if the stealer is to be trusted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

Chris

If its been used to drive up and down Motorways and has been serviced regularly, then I see no problem. Much better than short stop start journeys.

If you think you’re buying from a stealer you’re better off looking elsewhere. If you want to buy from a LR dealer however... 😇

Transits get used for extreme stop start work all the time, they go on for a couple of hundred thousand mile with ease.

I wouldn't worry about mileage, just look at the condition and decide if it looks as though its been treated with care.

LR's own extended Warranty:
https://www.landrover.com/ownership/extended-warranty.html

I arranged an Extended Warranty on my Dad's BMW X3, Much cheaper than BMW... Used these guys:

When he had a problem that involved needing a new steering rack (IIRC) Warranty Direct paid out no problem, so they did indeed stand up to their word! Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

If you are buying from a proper LR dealer, you could make a proper LR warranty part of the deal... IE tell them you want it included free-of-charge to close the deal Confused Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

If the Defender is from a proper LR dealer I would insist it's a genuine LR warranty included... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Is the Ford dealer in question part of a large dealer group? If it is, do they have a Land Rover Franchise? They might be able to transfer the car to an LR dealer so you get an LR warranty.

If not, make sure you get a copy of the warranty policy booklet before you buy, see what it actually covers and who underwrites it. A lot of the insurance backed ones aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Re: buying from a Land Rover retailer, if it's a certified pre-owned, you get 2 years warranty and it's 100% factory one at that. I would suggest having a look at their pre-owned locator which is what I used.

Additionally, there is a decent list of checks the retailer needs to do in order to bring it up to spec. While one would like to assume all retailers would do this, it is best to check it over with a fine tooth comb. I recently went this route and considering the cost of a MY13/14, it was money well spent. I think the premium to go CPO is about 1500-2000 when comparing non-CPO.

Lastly, re: the miles, I noticed that in regards to CPO, price is about the same regardless of it. Found one that had only 7500 whereas I ended up buying one that had 35,000 miles and both were the same price.

The previous owner neglected to notice a major water leak in the rear cabin, faulty heating system etc and all were covered under the warranty. That alone has paid for the premium of a CPO. On a side note, mine has full carpeting and rubber mats front and rear so the leak was never 'felt' or seen, in case anyone is wondering Smile

Hope this helps and good luck on the hunt!
