VCV replaced, issues doing high pressure pump relearn.
As per the title, I've replaced my VCV as I getting rough running when cold. Smelly and smokey exhaust etc. Seems like the first stage to anything like this is to just replace the VCV and go from there.

I have the BAS RRC tool which works fine on my truck. I can read faults etc and am attempting to use this tool to do the pump relearn which keeps failing! I am getting a few different errors in on the app. An error 6 and an error 4 usually but I can't seem to find any information about these errors. To those who have done the relearn process, it fails after the engine running stage. After the engine learn process you are instructed to switch the ignition off. The app recognizes that the ignition is turned off as there is an indicator that changes in the top right, but the app just hangs on the "switch off" screen for around 20 seconds, presumably waiting for me to switch it off, then fails. Usually with a E 6 code.

I AM however able to do the pilot learn procedure.

I've been speaking to Pete from BAS who appears to think that its the aftermarket alarm/immobilizer that is causing the issue as it may be interrupting the CAN signals.

Does anyone have any clues as to what I am able to do without disabling my alarm/immobilizer as except for this it works perfectly and I don't even know where the unit is installed!

I know this is a tall ask, but it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

YES DO get rid of it
Pete is 100% right.

Aftermarket alarms are a pain in the neck and one of my main enemies in my line of work. I can't remember how many I have removed.
Many garages here are toodim to even realize there is a LUCAS 10as installed in the car. So they fit some Chinese junk and can't imagine the problems it causes.

How to find it.. follow the extra wire that goes to a door switch or a suspicious item under your roof. Normally the junk sits behind the dash.

Disconnect. Reconnect your 10AS , wiring diagrams are all over the net. In doubt ask.

Your IIDTool ( I think this is what Pete sells) does not do 10AS but a Nanocom or Haweye will.

Before !!! you do reprogram the alarm ask me I will tell you the specifics.

Then you have to get rid of EVERY single errror in the engine module, then it will work fine.

I had trouble getting mine to do a relearn. The non-genuine Pressure relief valve was the problem, put a genuine one in and it went throught the relearn first time.

If your PRV is blown it'll also fail, and if you've replaced the PRV and forgotten to remove the old copper washer (so it now has two fitted) it'll fail.

It'll run fine without doing it, but it'll run better if you do.

When it does the relearn, what actually happens? When I hit the button on the Nanocom nothing happened, it didnt say yes or no, so no idea if it did anything. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Thanks for your replies everyone!

It's a little unusual that the pilot correction works ok, but the pump relearn doesn't. Interesting thought about the non-genuine VCV not working. Didn't know that was a thing, but it didn't work with my standard one either, so I think I can disregard that for now.

In regards to the alarm/immobilizer Annette, I've actually still got the original alarm connected too! They must be working alongside each other and so far no other issues with it! I think I'd prefer to just leave it be if this is the only thing playing up at the moment! I've spoken to the first owner, who installed it, who say it'll be a dash out job to get to it, plus its all taped up and hidden. Sounds like a nightmare to pull out. Confused Whats your line of work, if you don't mind me asking?

I'll see if an Indy will be able to do the learn process with their gear unless someone in the Norfolk area wishes to be generous with a Nanocom to give it a try?

Thanks again.

Non Genuine PRV. It's the pressure valve on the back of the fuel rail, if the VCV has been playing up they pressure releif valve can fail, if it has you wont pass the relearn.

Ah ok! I presume thered be more serious symptoms if I had a popped PRV than just rough running when cold?

Ive been watching my fuel rail pressures and they dont seem to be out of the ordinary.

Thanks again

Unless it's previously been replaced with a non-genuine one or someone left the old washer in there as well as the new one. The non-genuine one i tried on mine, looked identical and had no obvious fault with it, but it wouldn't go through the learning process with it fitted. With a new genuine one fitted it went through first time.

I'm not saying this is definitely your problem, but it's a possibility. It seems a lot of the Transit guys replace the PRV and Pressure sensor at either ends of the fuel rail when ever they replace a VCV.

Are your injectors all tight?
